Contract Positions Available

The Georgia Public Defender Standards Council seeks candidates to serve as contractors to represent indigent clients from motions for new trial through direct appeal from criminal convictions in the various judicial circuits in Georgia.  Currently, 2 or more candidates are sought to represent clients in cases arising in Barrow, Clarke, DeKalb, Gordon, and Fulton Counties.  Successful candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Be a member in good standing of the State Bar of Georgia
  • Be willing to take all assigned appeals arising in a designated geographic area (excluding death penalty appeals)
  • Be willing to provide competent, zealous and effective advocacy and representation on behalf of clients
  • Have sufficient experience in appellate representation
  • Be willing to accept a minimum of 10 appeals to a maximum of 20 appeals annually
  • Have a practice which allows the contractor to devote the necessary time and energy to zealous representation of assigned clients
  • Be willing to perform the required professional services under a contract for a designated amount paid monthly during the contractual year.
  • Be prepared to accept cases under a contract beginning January 2010.
