CIRCUIT PUBLIC DEFENDER : ADMINISTRATIVE/CLERICAL POSITION

Minimum Qualifications :

1. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office shall not be less than 21 years of age.

2. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must be a high school graduate or equivalent and must have a minimum of one year experience working in a clerical or administrative role.

3. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have an automobile and a valid driver's license.

4. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have knowledge of modern office practices, principles of modern record keeping, setup and maintaining filing systems and of legal phrases and terminology and have the ability to operate a variety of office equipment.

5. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must be proficient in the operation of a personal computer, word processing software, Word Perfect and Microsoft Word XP software and use of computer data base programs such as Excel.

6. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have the ability to read and comprehend the English language and to communicate orally and in writing.

7. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals.

8. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have the ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

9. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office have the ability to work with clients, clients = families, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner.

10. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office must have organizational skills and have the ability to work without direct supervision when called upon to do so.

Job Description:

The Administrative/Clerical Assistant in a Circuit Public Defender Office serves at the pleasure of the Circuit Public Defender. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant shall perform clerical duties and provide clerical assistance to the attorneys and investigators in the Circuit Public Defender Office. This person will be expected to handle confidential matters daily relating to the work of the Circuit Public Defender Office. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will be expected to prepare all legal documents relevant to the defense of clients in cases charged and copy court files and other documents. This person will be required to schedule appointments and obtain pertinent information to individual cases by preparing and serving subpoenas on witnesses, victims, law enforcement and other parties. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will be expected to maintain and enter into the case management system data and information relating to each client = s case. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will have the responsibility of maintaining a variety of office files and records including files of arrest warrants, records, and other matters relating to the defense of indigents. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will assist in the scheduling of work related travel plans the investigators and attorneys. This person will also be responsible for ordering and monitoring supplies. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will answer telephone calls and/or greet visitors in a courteous and timely manner.

Compensation:

The Administrative/Clerical Assistant will be a State of Georgia employee in the unclassified service of the State Merit System of Personnel Administration with will benefits of such appointed state employees as provided by law. The Administrative/Clerical Assistant shall be compensated based on a salary schedule established pursuant to OCGA Section 17-12-30. The salary range for the position of an Administrative/Clerical Assistant shall be not less than $25,895 nor more than $45,453. The starting salary for an Administrative/Clerical Assistant will depend upon experience and other factors established pursuant to OCGA Section 17-12-30. An Administrative/Clerical Assistant shall be reimbursed for actual expenses incurred in the performance of their official duties in accordance with the provisions of OCGA Section 17-12-26.
